Soluto's "Protection" Section

Alon Spindel
posted this on November 14, 2011 02:16 PM

This section lets you manage Protection issues for the people you help with their PC.

Within this section you’ll handle security settings, keeping the supported PC protected and up-to-date.

The Protection section analyzes the PC's vulnerability and suggests important actions accordingly, such as:

  • Turn the Windows Firewall on or off.
  • Install Important Windows updates (currently not active)
  • One click install and update antivirus software (currently AVG or Microsoft Security Essentials).

Nope, we hate toolbars as much as you do :-)

(the Apps section, along with the anti-virus installations are powered by Ninite, and they make sure to strip down any unwanted additional toolbars and add-ons during install).

That's what I hoped.

The visual protection level should represent the true status when an Internet Security solution (f.E. Kaspersky) is installed. Then, Windows Firewall ist turned off automatically during installation as the Kaspersky (or other) Solution brings in its own firewall.

Thanks for the good service. It's very appreciated so far! Keep going!

Hi Alexander, yes, we are aiming to do that in the near future, but at the moment, we do show only the Windows Firewall state.

Thank you for the feedback :)

How long should it take for the displayed data to change? I updated Windows on the remote laptop 3 days ago, but Soluto is still showing that two .NET updates are available. Opening the Windows Update tool on the laptop itself shows that these updates were successfully installed 3 days ago. So how long does it normally take changes to be reported back to the server? (the laptop is being used for 2 or 3 hours each day).

Thanks,  Adrian

Hi Adrian, it might take a couple of days. We're currently working on improving these sync-back issues.

The switch is grey and marked : We’ll time it so we don’t disturb you when turning off the firewall.

How can I enable this again, clicking on the button will not help.

Hello Bart, you must have clicked to disable the firewall. Please wait a few hours for the operation to complete, you'd then be able to turn on the firewall.

We're planning to include an "are you sure" button when disabling the firewall.

@Wehyah3 - yes, you still need an anti-virus solution, as Soluto is not a security application. We offer the option to install either AVG or MSE on PCs that do not have a security app installed, but we cannot recommend a specific one to you.
